Screening and Treating Skin Cancer
The two most common types of skin cancer that our patients experience are melanoma and basal cell carcinoma. Typically, melanoma will start as a mole, while basal cell appears as a small white or flesh-colored bump. When performing a skin cancer screening, we will look for these signs along with other symptoms.
While melanoma is considered to be the most severe form of skin cancer, early detection has a very high cure rate of nearly 100%. This is why it is so important to check your skin regularly for any suspicious signs. Both exposed and unexposed areas of your body can get cancer.
For basal cell carcinoma, it will present as a malignant tumor. While this sounds scary, the cancer is typically localized to one area and does not spread, making it easy to remove. This is why basal cell carcinoma is considered less severe when compared to melanoma.
Type of Skin Treatments
Typically, our specialists will use a combination of medical and surgical procedures to treat problem areas of your skins. If you have lesions or other growths, your doctor may need to remove them with a procedure that may or may not require stitches. The removed tissue will then be sent to a lab for further analysis to test for any underlying conditions such as cancer. Our doctor may also decide to use liquid nitrogen cryotherapy to remove the lesion.
When visiting our clinic for dermatology services for the first time, we will typically begin with a consultation and physical examination. We will then perform any necessary tests and schedule any follow-up appointments that are required.
In addition to our cancer screening and treatment, we also offer a range of other skincare solutions. Part of these dermatology services includes the evaluation and treatment of various skin, nail, and hair conditions, including:
