What Is a Skin Cancer Screening?

A skin cancer screening is an evaluation by a dermatologist or dermatologic surgeon. Our medical professionals will examine your skin for any suspicious moles or growths that might indicate melanoma or another type of cancer. We check all areas of your skin that are exposed to the sun, looking for the “ABCDE” warning signs:

A: Asymmetric lesion.

B: Border is irregular.

C: Color is out of step with a person’s other moles.

D: Diameter of lesion is enlarging.

E: Evolving or changing lesion.

On this page, you can see an example picture of melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Note the color changes and irregular border. If you believe you have a spot like this, call 1-901-753-0168 to schedule a skin cancer check appointment with us as soon as possible. We will determine whether the spot is cancerous and which—if any—skin cancer treatment is most appropriate.

Our clinic is located at 8143 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, TN 38018. If we’re too distant from your location, you can find a dermatologist near you at AAD.org.
